Our Story

How it all started...

Skate Cabal is not just a community, it’s a movement. A movement inspired by the power of roller skating to bring people together and make a difference in people’s lives.

It all began in September 2021 when our founder, James Kaguima, saw how roller skating brought people together during the pandemic. He saw how it helped people overcome mental health issues and social isolation. He saw the joy, the freedom, and the sense of community that skating brought to people’s lives.

And so, Skate Cabal was born. A multi-award winning community that aims to amplify safe spaces, culture, and stories for the roller skating community in the UK. Our mission is to provide purpose-built spaces for the roller skating community to connect and flourish.

Since our inception, we have received support from multiple organisations such as Newham Council, London Legacy Development Corporation, National Lottery Fund, Good Growth Hub, and the Mayor of London to name a few. With this backing, we have hosted various pop-up roller skating events, including skate coaching sessions, open jam skates, and summer skate festivals, to help grow our community.

Our newsletter and online forums have also been instrumental in connecting roller skating enthusiasts and raising awareness of safe spaces and events happening within the vastly growing roller skating community in the UK.

Skate Cabal has been recognised for its work and has won multiple awards, including the East London Young Community Award, Special Recognition Award from High Sheriff of Greater London, and YIC Excellence Award for Leadership from Newham Council. We have also spoken at London Tech Week and BBC and have been featured in various online blog publications.
